Welcome to the 5th Singapore Sarcoma Consortium Education and Research Meeting 2017!
 
This meeting comes after two Sarcoma Preceptorships, with the more recent Pathology Preceptorship running over the two days leading up to this Symposium.

This year, we will be focusing on the challenges of Chondrosarcoma, benign aggressive tumours like Fibromatosis and Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis (PVNS), as well as novel treatments for sarcoma.
 
We are honoured to have two plenary speakers at our symposium this year. The first plenary lecture will be given by Dr Ajay Puri from Mumbai, India. He will be speaking on controversial topic of “Surgical Margins – more or less?”. Dr Puri is Professor and Chief of Orthopaedic Oncology at Tata Memorial Centre and is current President of the Asia Pascific Musculoskeletal Society. 
 
The second plenary session will be given by Prof Khin Thway from London, United Kingdom. She will be speaking to us on the changes that molecular pathology are making to sarcoma diagnostics, focusing on “Soft Tissue Tumours with EWSR1-ATF1 or EWSR1-CREB1 Fusions”. Dr Khin Thway is a Consultant Histopathologist to the Sarcoma Unit, the Paediatrics Unit and the Head and Neck Unit at the Royal Marsden.
 
This year, we are also honoured to have a member of our Sarcoma Survivor’s Group, Mr Chang Fook Tin, speak to us on his journey as a patient. While we as medical professionals constantly strive to do our best clinically, we still do not fully understand the trials and tribulations that our patients go through during the course of their treatment, and Mr Chang will share with us his thoughts and experience of this.
